This uses the "digital
complementaries", not artist's complementaries. Use colours from each
quadrant or from opposite quadrants for interesting effects. Avoid
colours from outside two quadrants.
A quadrant can be any
combination of three colours on the wheel which can relate to another
group of three colours. Usually a quadrant relates to a single subject,
i.e. 3 sun colours vs 3 snow colours etc.
Thus if the colours you
choose follow any theme then it should be OK even if they do not align
to any quadrant. Random disassociated colours should never be used!
